Smashing Watermelons

Last week, we did an experiment on smashing watermelons. First, we wanted to see if the watermelon would float or sink. We found out that a watermelon floats in water. Then, we used our senses to see how it looks and how it feels. It had light green and dark green strips on it. The watermelon also felt very hard. Then, Mrs B had an idea to see what it looked like and smelt like on the inside, so Mrs Henderson grabbed the watermelon and threw off the blue seats. When it smashed it broke into a thousand pieces. People started to eat and smell the watermelon. Some people said it smelt yuck and some people said it smelt nice. I thought the watermelon tasted nice. It was very juicy. After we did the experiment, they asked us to do a stop motion about how it smashed. So the teachers made some play dough and brought some equipment in for us to do make it with. It was quite difficult. Unfortunately, our animation did not save. Here are some photos of what happened on the day.
